Levi’s Japan made this sample pair of 1944 LVC 501XXs – a one-of-a-kind pant that is almost a replica of what would become the blueprint for modern blue denim.

During WWII, Levi’s had to cut back on materials, so in 1944, their iconic 501 cut jeans were made with unbranded donut buttons. Designers also had to use more readily available fabrics for the inner pocket bags, resulting in the use of herringbone and checkered cotton twill instead of the typical ecru fabric. Most notably, its arcuates – the iconic rear pocket stitching – from this era were printed on the back pockets to save thread.

This particular pair is a Levi’s Vintage Clothing sample made from 12oz Japanese denim produced by the legendary Kaihara Mills.

Its charcoal wash, plaid pocket bags, and beautiful distressing throughout the garment ensure that you’ll outshine your everyday selvedge bro in any setting.
